Can animals really sense emotion and danger in thier human counterparts?
I have always had a great love for animals and have been estonished by thier abilities since i was a young girl. There are always stories being told on how animals can sense when their owners are hurt or in danger as well as sense any other emotion that is being given off. It is also said that animals can sense when they are about to die or when storms are about to hit. But how is this all possible? Many of us know that animals have hightened senses, but are they truly this storng?
What long term effects can divorce have on children?
As a child whose parents are divorced i believe that each situation and each child are unique in a sense that divorce can have many different effects. Some children may be to young to understand reasons as to why a seperation has occured while others can be bitter and angry because they are old enough to let it have a significant change in thier lives. Some chiildren may be happy because a seperation makes thier lives a little easier and enjoyable while others are still miserable. Each situation is unique, but what is the most common emotion, the most common effect divorce can have on a child?
Art as Arguement
This picture seems to reflect a more depressive style as seen with the use of dark colors such as blues and blacks. The images also give onlookers a sense of sadness or troubles, what is being portrayed is not that of happiness but more so darkness. The image is very non realistic and portrays many different things such as animals as well as humans. Death and pain are great symbols that Picasso uses in this piece of work. The painting emphasizes the tragedies war brings and the sufferings it can hold on its people.
This picture also reflects troubled times and sadness. The guns pointed at the man and the man already dead on the ground with people all around and crying must have been done during a time of problems in a this country with this specific group of people. The fact that the portrait is taking place at night gives us the sense that these men and people were hiding or running from the men carrying and pointing the guns. The painting is meant to portray Spanish resistance against Napoleons armies while they occupied the land in 1808. This too shows the horrors that war can impose on a country and its people.
This picture shows men being held at gunpoint while onlookers peer over a wall in horror. It seems the man being shot is being executed while people in the country look upon it in disbelief. The fact the painting was done during the day shows it wasn’t a big deal to the men who were carrying out the execution. The painting expresses trouble within a country and problems that man think they can fix by the killing of one man. The men who are carrying out this execution truly don’t care about what they do or who they hurt.
Comments on the Rhetoric of both reading pieces
The article “A growing epidemic in the prison systems” begins by speaking to the reader about comfort zones. The author speaks of the ways certain people feel safe in certain situations and how many are afraid to step out of the safeness of their own comfort zones. Knowing this the author begins to speak of how we as people need to step out of thier comfort zones and help people in need to overcome thier dire circumstances. In order to do this, the author felt it was necessary to educate and help prisoners outside of their facilities, but many are afraid to take this step. Through the use of pathos and much logos the author reaches the reader to help build a better understanding and allow others to step out of thier comfort zones. In the second reading, Panopticism, the author compares the disiplinary system to plagues. In this story, the author uses a more factual approach, or logos to get her point across. The author begins the story by speaking of a plague and then transitions into her thoughts on the disiplinary system, comparing both. She them says both need to be taken care of in the correct steps in order to eliminate the problem.
Response to Ethos, Pathos and Logos-MLK and Obama
I believe that both MLK’s Letter to Birmingham Jail and Obama’s speech represent the use of ethos, pathos, and logos effectively. Both use logic and facts to back the points being made while reaching the audience on a deeper level. Both use alot of logos and pathos, but overall i believe that both men have made a point to use all three terms in order to make thier speeches effective to both readers and the audience being reached.
Peer Editing
I feel the peer editing was very helpful in many ways. I was reminded of many descriptions i had missed and was given ideas to help lengthened my paper and make it more complete. Sometimes having someone else read or give advice on your paper lets you step back and breathe for a moment. I also realized how repetative i was being in certain areas of my paper. Sometimes it is hard to catch yourself making these mistakes and when another person gives you thier opinion and insight i believe it gives you more options and is extemely helpful.
The ten minute session was very beneficial as well. I had questions answered as well as ideas on how to elongate my paper. I also was told how to make the context of my paper better. This helped me bulid new ideas as well as fix others.
You Tube-A sharing of information
About two years ago my brother came home from college and wanted to show me a video presentation that his class had put together for a project earlier in the year. At that point I was confused on how I was going to be able to view this video until he mentioned You Tube. His professor had uploaded the entire classes’ videos so they could be viewed after he had collected them. I was very unfamiliar with this site at the time and I had only heard of it here and there, I did not understand its purpose. That is when my brother stepped in and introduced me to the site.
You Tube is a video sharing website that allows users to upload, share and view video clips. I believe that You Tube speaks to me and others when used in the right ways. You Tube brings people together all around the world to join in a common cause or idea, no matter what your age is or where you’re from. Beside certain material being prohibited, this site has unlimited opportunities for everyone. Almost all text and all arguments can be found on You Tube. People are able to express themselves and share information with others that wasn’t available a couple of years ago. Whenever I have needed certain information or ideas in the past I have been able to look it up and obtain the information needed. With its wide range of topics, You Tube has turned video sharing into one of the most important parts of Internet cultures.
You Tube was created in February 2005 by three former PayPal employees and friends Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim. In October of 2006, Google announced that it had reached a deal to acquire the company for 1.65 billion in Google stock. The deal soon closed in November of that year.
In the last couple of years You Tube has been criticized frequently for failing to ensure that its online content follows copyright laws. When users upload videos, the following message is displayed:
Do not upload any TV shows, music videos, music concerts or commercials without permission unless they consist entirely of content you created yourself. The Copyright Tips page and the Community Guidelines can help you determine whether your video infringes someone else’s copyright.
Despite the advice users are given, there are still many unauthorized clips from the areas the message clearly states should not be uploaded.
It seems that You Tube has gained criticism but at the same time done much more for people all around the world. I will continue to use You Tube for obtaining and sharing information in the present and in the future as well.
